Oh boy, oh boy! Is it now 2013, and that means that many people are going to 'start fresh' for the new year.
I dislike New Year's resolutions, simply because the majority of them fall through. In order to achieve our resolutions, we need willpower. The problem with waiting until the new year to put forth effort into achieving our goals is that our willpower is very low, since most resolutions are thought of at a minimum of a few weeks prior to welcoming a new year. Starting over for another year gives you a boost of refreshment and energy. But as humans, we generally dislike change. Unless we make a conscious effort to stay on track, our goals can be easily lost by our old patterns that feel comfortable to us.
How can you assure that you achieve your New Year's resolutions? By not waiting until New Year's to begin!
When you have an opportunity to better yourself, do not wait. When you wait, you are signifying to yourself that you can put this off some other time, and it is not too terribly important to you. This kind of mentality is a set up for failure. If you just absolutely have to wait for the new year to feel like you are starting over fresh, then find a friend who has the same goal and work towards it together. Having support can give you the encouragement you need to reach your goals.
Now go partner up and kick some New Year resolution butt!
Good luck.
