Weekend Rewind: Spring Break 2013

My darling mother came into town from Vegas last Thursday for the weekend, and we had a blast!

We went out to dinner with my in-laws at El Kiosco in Rialto the first night my mom was in town.  The second night, mom cooked homemade oven fried chicken with mashed potatoes that had real butter and cream, mixed veggies and a salad with apple chunks.  After dinner, the girls (mom, mother-in-law and myself), went to a local dive bar near my work called The Rustic Inn.  We had a few drinks and girl talk, and headed back home.

The next day, Saturday, was a perfect day from beginning to end.  Mom and I headed to my work to meet my co-workers and see the area.  Afterwards, we were on our way to downtown Redlands.  Having worked near downtown Redlands, I knew there was a lot of great shopping around, but I had never taken a day to explore and shop.  Boy, did we shop!  We were in Redlands from 10:20 A.M. until 4:00 P.M.  We went inside clothing boutiques, antique shops, a dog specialty store, and a wonderful place called Mozart's Fine Gifts.  This place has everything from Crabtree and Evelyn gifts, to crochet throws, to cookbooks, to jewlery, to tea.  This is a place everyone woman needs to shop once in their lifetime.  I also found a neat little local bakery that is very reasonable.  I purchased two loaves of homemade bread: raspberry and 11 grain apple cinnamon.  I paid about $5.00 a loaf for specialty bakery bread that I am in love with!  As my mother said, "You can't make it for that price!"  The Muffin Top bakery specializes in gourmet bread and pastries.  Their large cupcake are only $1.50 each.  I am in love with this place!

After shopping, we made our way over to State Street Winery for my first ever wine tasting.  We were given five samples of wine that the winery themselves make for $6.00 a person.  It's a creative, cheap date idea!  We tried two white wines, two red wines, and a Chardonnay.  The Chardonnay was so delicious!  The aroma and taste were very rich and buttery.  Mom and I both ended up bringing home a bottle of that one, called the Bella Bianco.  With bags full of goodies and empty bellies, we ate at Romano's Italian Restaurant.  Mom ordered a thin crust pizza and I had a cheeseburger.  Yes, I had a cheeseburger at an Italian restaurant and it was delicious!  Since Trader Joe's was in the same shopping center, we had to stop there.  I ended up with some delicious molten lava cakes and some fruit and veggies.  We headed home and enjoyed everyone's company with lots of coffee.

The following day we relaxed and watched Nascar until 2:00, when I drove mom to Ontario airport.  Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell you how annoyed I got when my Garmin continued to steer me in the wrong direction after we exited the freeway.  I wanted to get mom to her plane on time, and give her some time to relax.  Getting lost?!  AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FO' THAT!  Luckily, mom's phone GPS got us on the correct path to the airport.  We said our goodbyes and noted that getting back to our normal schedules was going to suck after having such a fun weekend together.
